The Smarter Way to Wash — ONR Wash & Wax Rinseless Wash Essentials Kit

The ONR Wash & Wax Rinseless Wash Essentials Kit is the complete starter system for anyone who wants to wash their car properly, quickly, and safely — without a hose, without a driveway, and without putting a single swirl in the paint. Built around the industry-standard Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax formula, this kit bundles every tool you need into one ready-to-go package. Just mix, wipe, and buff. That's it.

Why Detailers Choose the ONR Rinseless Wash Kit

No rinsing required — by design. Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax uses a polymer-based formula that encapsulates and lifts dirt particles away from the paint surface on contact, eliminating the need for a rinse hose entirely. One gallon of water. One car. Done.

Wax protection built into every wash. The Wash & Wax version of ONR doesn't just clean — it leaves behind a thin layer of wax polymers with every wipe, building paint protection passively as part of your regular wash routine.

Scratch-safe on every paint type. ONR's encapsulation technology is engineered to prevent abrasion by suspending dirt particles in the solution rather than dragging them across the surface. Safe on single-stage paint, clear coats, PPF, vinyl wraps, and ceramic-coated vehicles.

The Ultra Safe Sponge is purpose-matched to the process. Unlike a standard wash mitt, the Ultra Safe Sponge holds a large volume of ONR solution and releases it evenly across each panel. Its ultra-soft cell structure is scratch-free on any finished surface.

The Colorburst Tidal Wave finishes the job. After wiping each panel, follow immediately with the Colorburst Tidal Wave microfiber to buff away any residual solution and reveal a clean, wax-enhanced finish. High-pile microfibers lift and trap the final layer of contamination without scratching.

The Grit Guard bucket keeps the process clean. The included bucket and Grit Guard insert separate settled dirt from your clean ONR solution — so every dip of the sponge is into fresh, grit-free wash water. A clean process from first panel to last.

What's In the Kit

Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax

The cornerstone of the kit. ONR Wash & Wax is a concentrated rinseless wash solution from Optimum Polymer Technologies, the American detailing chemistry company founded in 1997. At a 1–2 oz per gallon dilution, a single bottle provides dozens of full-car washes. The Wash & Wax formula adds wax polymer protection with every application — passive protection that builds wash after wash. Safe on paint, matte finishes, wraps, PPF, chrome, glass, and trim.

Ultra Safe Sponge

A high-capacity, ultra-soft foam sponge engineered for rinseless and waterless wash applications. The open-cell foam structure absorbs and holds a generous volume of ONR solution, releasing it across the panel evenly with light pressure. Large enough to cover significant surface area in each pass, reducing the number of strokes needed and minimising wash time. The soft cell structure is scratch-free on paint, wrap, and PPF.

The Colorburst Tidal Wave Microfiber

A premium high-pile buffing and drying microfiber from The Rag Company's Colorburst line. After each panel wipe with the sponge, follow immediately with the Tidal Wave to buff the ONR residue to a clean, wax-enhanced finish. The long, soft fibres trap residual contamination and lift it away from the surface without scratching. Works equally well as a final buff towel, a quick detailer applicator, or a general interior wipe.

Rinse Bucket with Grit Guard Insert

A purpose-built detailing bucket with a Grit Guard insert seated at the bottom. After each panel, rinse your sponge in the bucket and push it against the Grit Guard to release settled contamination below the grid. This separates dirt and grit from your clean ONR solution above, ensuring every subsequent dip of the sponge is into fresh, clean wash water. Consistent cleanliness from the first panel to the last.

How to Use the ONR Rinseless Wash Essentials Kit

  1. Mix the solution. Fill the included bucket with approximately one gallon (3.8 litres) of water. Add 1–2 oz (30–60 ml) of ONR Wash & Wax and stir briefly. The solution will turn a light blue colour. Place the Grit Guard insert at the bottom of the bucket.
  2. Prepare your vehicle. Work in the shade if possible and ensure the vehicle surface is cool to the touch. Remove any loose, heavy debris with a light rinse or compressed air if available — particularly important on heavily soiled vehicles.
  3. Load the sponge. Submerge the Ultra Safe Sponge in the ONR solution and allow it to absorb fully. Squeeze it once, then load again to ensure maximum saturation.
  4. Work panel by panel, top to bottom. Starting at the roof, wipe each panel in straight, overlapping strokes. Apply light pressure — the chemistry does the work. Do not scrub. Work panel by panel, moving from the cleanest areas (roof, bonnet, boot lid) down to the dirtiest (sills, lower doors, wheel arches).
  5. Buff immediately. After each panel, immediately follow with the Colorburst Tidal Wave microfiber to buff away the ONR solution and any lifted contamination. Flip to a clean side of the towel frequently. This is the step that reveals the final, clean, wax-enhanced finish.
  6. Rinse and reload the sponge between panels. After every panel (or two on a lightly soiled car), submerge the sponge in the bucket and push it firmly against the Grit Guard to release dirt below the grid. Re-saturate, squeeze once, and load again before moving to the next panel.
  7. Finish and inspect. Once all panels are complete, do a final pass with a clean, dry area of the Tidal Wave to remove any remaining residue. Inspect in raking light for any areas that need attention and spot-treat with ONR applied directly to the towel.

Pro Tip: For very lightly contaminated vehicles — dust, light road film — skip the sponge entirely and apply ONR Wash & Wax directly to the Colorburst Tidal Wave at a slightly higher dilution (2–3 oz per gallon in a spray bottle). Wipe and buff each panel in one step. A full car in under ten minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is rinseless washing and how does it work?

Rinseless washing is a method of cleaning a vehicle using a small amount of water (typically one gallon) and a specially formulated wash solution — in this case, Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax. ONR contains polymer molecules that bond to dirt and contamination on contact, encapsulating particles and suspending them in the solution rather than allowing them to drag across the paint. You wipe each panel with a sponge loaded with the ONR solution, then immediately buff dry with a clean microfiber. No rinsing required. The result is a clean, wax-protected finish using a fraction of the water a conventional wash demands.

Is rinseless washing safe on all paint types?

Yes. ONR Wash & Wax is safe on all conventional and specialist paint types including single-stage paint, basecoat/clearcoat systems, matte and satin finishes, vinyl wraps, paint protection film (PPF), and ceramic-coated vehicles. The key is technique: always use a clean, well-saturated sponge, work in straight strokes with light pressure, and never let the sponge run dry on the surface. On heavily soiled vehicles, a light pre-rinse is recommended before the ONR process begins.

Can I use this kit on a really dirty car?

The rinseless wash method is best suited to lightly to moderately soiled vehicles — road film, dust, light mud, general grime. For heavily soiled vehicles (packed mud, heavy grease, post-trail off-road contamination), we recommend a traditional hose-down or pressure wash first to remove the bulk of loose contamination, then following with the ONR process as your main wash. The Grit Guard bucket included in this kit is specifically designed to manage contamination during the wash and keep your ONR solution clean — but the process works best when gross contamination has been removed first.

How many washes does the ONR Wash & Wax concentrate provide?

At the standard rinseless wash dilution of 1–2 oz per gallon, a 32 oz bottle provides approximately 16–32 full-car washes. At the quick detailer dilution (2–3 oz per 32 oz spray bottle), the concentrate goes considerably further. ONR is one of the most cost-efficient wash solutions in professional detailing for exactly this reason — a modest upfront investment covers an entire season or more of regular washing.

Do I need to work in the shade?

Shade is strongly recommended. Direct sunlight on a hot surface causes the ONR solution to evaporate and dry on the paint before you can buff it away, which increases the risk of streaking and, on very hot panels, minor marring. An indoor garage, a covered parking structure, or a shaded outdoor area are all ideal. If you must work in partial sun, tackle the vehicle in smaller sections and buff each one immediately after wiping — don't let the solution sit on the surface.

Can I use ONR Wash & Wax on a ceramic-coated car?

Yes. ONR Wash & Wax is fully compatible with ceramic coatings and will not degrade or strip a correctly cured coating. The wax polymers in the formula may leave a very light layer of wax over the coating surface, which some owners prefer to avoid — if you want to keep the coating completely unaffected, the standard ONR (without the Wax additive) is the version to use. Both are safe; the choice comes down to personal preference for your specific coating maintenance routine.
